Who we are
Centonomy Limited ('Centonomy', 'we', 'us'), Dale House, Rhapta Road, Westlands, P.O. Box 780-00606, Nairobi, Kenya, runs centonomy.com, the Centonomy learning platform and Centonomy's programmes and events in Kenya, Uganda and online.
We are the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. We handle it in line with Kenya's Data Protection Act, 2019 and its regulations and, for people in Uganda, Uganda's Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019.
What we collect
- Contact details: your name, email, phone or WhatsApp number and country, when you enquire, register, sign up for an event, subscribe or buy.
- Programme and learning details: the programme and intake you choose, attendance, progress, assignments, quiz results and certificates.
- Payment details: amounts, payment references and confirmation that a payment was made. We never see or store your card details or M-Pesa PIN.
- What you tell us: your messages, feedback and testimonials, and your answers to our money and business checks if you choose to send them to us.
- Photos and video taken at our events and classes.
- Teens Boot Camp: a parent or guardian's contact details, and the details about their teen that the parent or guardian gives us.
- How you use the site: pages visited and basic device information, only if you accept analytics cookies.
How we use it
- To register you and deliver your programme, event, learning platform access or book order, as part of our agreement with you.
- To take payments and keep financial records, as the law requires.
- To answer your questions, support your learning and send the reminders and updates your programme needs.
- To send money tips, offers and news, only if you have agreed to receive them.
- To improve our website and programmes, using analytics only with your consent and feedback that does not identify you.
- To meet our legal, tax and regulatory obligations.
We use your data only for the purpose we collected it for, or for a closely related purpose you would reasonably expect.
Your consent and marketing
We send marketing emails and WhatsApp or SMS messages only if you opted in. You can withdraw your consent at any time: use the unsubscribe link in any email, or tell us and we will stop. Withdrawing consent does not affect messages sent before you withdrew it.
We keep a record of when and how you gave your consent.
Children and teens
Centonomy Teens Boot Camp is for young people aged 13 to 18. A parent or guardian registers the teen, and we process a teen's personal data only with the consent of their parent or guardian. We do not send marketing to anyone under 18.
A parent or guardian can ask to see, correct or delete the data we hold about their teen at any time.
Photos and filming at our events
We photograph and film our events and some classes to share our work. When you register for an event, we ask you to confirm you understand this.
If you would prefer not to appear, tell the team on the day. If a photo or video of you has already been published, contact us and we will remove it where we can. We publish photos of teens only with the consent of their parent or guardian.
Recordings of live online classes are shared only with the participants of that class.
Who we share it with
- Service providers who help us take payments, send messages, run online classes, and host our website and learning platform. They may use your data only on our instructions, and must keep it secure and confidential.
- Facilitators who teach your class, who see what they need to teach and support you.
- Your employer or sponsoring organisation, if they pay for your training: we may share your attendance and completion with them.
- Authorities, where the law requires us to.
We never sell your personal data.
Transfers outside Kenya and Uganda
Some of our service providers store or process data outside Kenya and Uganda. When that happens, we transfer data only where the law allows it, and with safeguards that protect it to the standard the law requires.
How long we keep it
We keep personal data only for as long as we need it for the purposes in this policy, or for as long as the law requires. For example, we keep financial records for the period tax law sets, and learner records so we can confirm your certificate and keep you connected as an alumnus.
When we no longer need data, we delete it or anonymise it so it no longer identifies you.
How we protect it
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data against loss, misuse and unauthorised access. Only people who need it for their work can see it, and they are bound to keep it confidential.
If a breach affects your personal data, we will tell the data protection authority and, where the law requires, you.
Your rights
Under Kenyan and Ugandan data protection law, you have the right to:
- be told how your data is used;
- see the personal data we hold about you;
- have it corrected if it is wrong, or deleted if we no longer need it;
- object to its use, including for marketing, and ask us to restrict how we use it;
- receive a copy of the data you gave us in a format you can reuse;
- withdraw your consent at any time.
We do not make decisions about you based only on automated processing. To use any of these rights, email talkcents@centonomy.com. We may ask you to confirm your identity, and we will respond within the time the law sets.
Cookies
Our website uses essential cookies to keep your cart and sign-in working. We use analytics cookies only if you accept them in the cookie notice. You can change your choice at any time by clearing this site's cookies in your browser and choosing again.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, please contact us first and we will try to put it right. You can also complain to the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner in Kenya or, in Uganda, to the Personal Data Protection Office.
